Family Law Mediation | |||
Family separations are
a very emotional time. Amongst the hurt, confusion and stress, couples
often struggle with the division of their assets and minimise the stress
of the separation it causes for their children. The Family Court process
is not only costly, but also relies on a decision being enforced by an
independent person (a judge) that does not necessarily take the individual
family members needs. The Family Law Mediation process recognises that the
best people to resolve issues are those directly involved and best able to
define the problems and generate solutions. It helps people to discuss
issues, develop options and reach agreement that takes everyone’s
interests into consideration. It empowers people and puts the decision
making into their own hands.
Gippsland Mediation Service can also help parents develop ‘Parenting Plans’ that are compliant with the recent July 2006 changes to the Family Law Act. A Parenting Plan is a powerful tool that can replace a Court Parenting Order and can best meet the changing interests of your children. Of clients, 75% reach agreement and are satisfied that it is effective process in gaining a fair agreement. It also saves time and money that may otherwise have been spent through long legal proceedings. |

Workplace Mediation | |||
Often disputes arise in the
workplace,. They may be small disputes between employee’s or the employee
and the
employer. Sometimes, the aggrieved party feels powerless to resolve these
disputes to the point where they become very unhappy or even unproductive
in the work place. If these disputes are large enough or effect enough of
the workplace, often ‘Workers Unions’ are asked to advocate on behalf of
the employees. However, often the disputes effect only one person or are
small and can be easily
resolved through a mediation conference where the issues are fairly heard
and each party has the opportunity to |

Parent / Adolescent Mediation
Being an adolescent is a very difficult period in a young persons life. Often the pressure of trying to cope with this period in a young persons life makes it difficult to manage. This can adversely effect the relationship that adolescent have with their parents, family, friends and society. Often the communication breaks down between parents and the adolescent. Adolescents struggling to cope and often rely on high risk and life altering behaviors to manage. Dropping out of school, becoming socially recluse, being heavily involved in alcohol or drugs and loosing respect for themselves and others and even thoughts of self harm and suicide are all typical behavior's for adolescent’s at risk. The Parent/Adolescent mediation process is a method by which the adolescent and the parent have the opportunity to express their concerns equally. It is a formal communication process that encourages communication of each parties feelings without the risk of ridicule. It also provides an opportunity for both parties to develop strategies to re-kindle the communication and the relationship between the parent and the adolescent in the future.
Community Dispute Resolution
Disputes arise throughout the community. A disagreement can form between individuals such as neighbours over pets, fences or minor offences. Disputes can form between groups in the community such as competing retailer disputes, local governments and residents, and even community groups that have a vested interest in the same resources. Gippsland Mediation Service offer an alternative dispute resolution process that endeavours to help community members and individuals resolve these disputes when they arise. It provides and opportunity to explore fair options and put what's fair into the community members hands.
School Victim / Offender Mediation
This process is a relatively new approach to dealing with small acts of crime such as bullying or vandalism in the school environment. It is a process whereby the victim of the crime has an opportunity to explain how the actions of the offender have caused them harm. The offender needs to then take ownership of the harm that they have caused and is given the opportunity to develop options for rectifying that harm. Traditional punishments often don’t match the crime and leave the victim uncompensated. This approach is beneficial to the victim as they feel their victimization is being recognized and rectified. The offender has the opportunity of understanding the harm their actions caused, but also gives them an opportunity to rectify this harm through their actions in the future. It has also been proven to reduce the risk of the offender re-committing the crime in the future. |
